Arizona in December is quickly becoming our new Christmas tradition. The sunshine, golf for the boys, late night pickle ball, cousin time, and being at Grammy and Papas is hard to beat! This year was extra special for many reasons. First, Shell and Heidi had just had their babies so to be able to meet, hold, and love on baby Brooke and Lew was about as good as it gets! Also we were able to spend time with Grandpa Kirkland and Grandma Rawlins. We didn't know at the time, but it would be the last time we would see either of them on this earth. I was emotional while visiting both Grandpa and Grandma because I knew it was a possibility that I may not see them again. I have forever memories of both of my grandparents and felt especially grateful to spend last moments with them in December and hug them both one last time.
A few other highlights from our Arizona trip included the boys taking a tour of the ASU golf program with Matt Thurmond, who is now the new head coach at ASU. He gave Keith and the boys all ASU hats and set up a fun day of golf for the boys. Kinley was able to help Stacie with a ballet photo shoot with Lo for Alice + Ames which made for a fun afternoon.
During our trip I finally had to put my foot down and take the boys to get haircuts. It was their first time in a salon, we usually just cut their hair at home, but it got to a point where it couldn't wait one day longer! For MONTHS both Rex and Ben had been refusing haircuts and wanted afros, especially Rex! His friends at school had been encouraging and excited about Rex growing out his afro. Mid trip though, I couldn't take it anymore, and took a good ole trip to the salon with these boys. This was more of a highlight for myself, as the boys really didn't enjoy this too much!
We hiked, did some great family service projects together, and just loved being with family. Arizona in December is the best way for our family to spend Christmas. Grammy and Papa are the ultimate hosts and do so much for all of us! So many memories made!
